Because managing thermal comfort in homes is becoming crucial as heat waves become an increasing reality, this special day’s objective is to raise awareness among the general public and political decision-makers about the benefits of using solar shading. Indeed, because solar shadings avoid heat increase in buildings, they reduce the need for air conditioning, resulting in a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 60%¹ compared to buildings using air conditioning systems.

When automated, solar shading is even more effective and allows families to significantly improve their home's energy performance, even when they are not at home.

In summer, solar shading automation reduces inside temperature by 4 to 7°C² during peak heat.
In winter, it reduces heating consumption by 10 to 30%³ by using the free and ecological energy of the sun during the day and automatically closing the shutters at nightfall to conserve heat.

Somfy's solutions thus avoid twice as much CO2 as they produce throughout their life cycle.

In addition, in 2021, SOMFY Group committed to reducing its carbon footprint and that of its products by 50%⁴. To make this goal a reality, the Group is working on its products’ eco-design—optimizing components and power consumption during use and on standby. 100% of products sold will be eco-designed by 2030.
